ESAT, TMUA and TARA: past papers, official samples and mock scores
Oxbridge Admissions Tests · Updated
Check the test name, year, module and source before choosing a resource. Official samples introduce the current format and player, historical questions support targeted practice, and our original mocks record timing and review data. These are not interchangeable labels for current official past papers.
Classify the resource before using it
Start with the UAT-UK preparation page for specifications, samples and resource links. Keep the original file name and source URL so that a downloaded paper remains identifiable.
If you use questions labelled ENGAA, NSAA, BMAT or TSA, retain that original test label. Reusing a question for ESAT or TARA practice does not make it an official ESAT or TARA past question. Check each question against the scope of the current module.
A useful sequence: familiarisation, targeted work, mixed retest
Use official samples to become familiar with the format and controls. Select short topic sets for the weaknesses you identify, reviewing knowledge errors separately from reading errors. Then use a different mixed set to check transfer.
A higher score on the same paper may reflect memory of its answers. Preserve the first result and retest using unseen questions covering similar knowledge.
Why a percentage is not an official 1–9 score
UAT-UK explains that its practice tests identify correct and incorrect answers without awarding a scaled score; the official scale depends on the performance distribution in the relevant cohort. Our mocks do not have that calibration sample and cannot predict an official score from the number correct.
Compare module, difficulty, repeated questions, time used and unanswered questions alongside the total. Track whether the same errors recur and whether you can perform consistently under comparable conditions.
Use the report to choose the next set
Give each error a concrete next action: revise a concept, redo a transformation, highlight a missed condition or set a point at which to move on. The next practice should test whether that action helped.
Filter the question bank by source and topic, retain source labels on assembled papers and take your mock report to a teacher to discuss two priorities. Do not infer admission chances from one practice result.
